Forecast Indicates Modest Changes in HVAC for 2012

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — The Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) released its annual statistical forecast, which projects that residential air conditioning, commercial air conditioning, and furnace shipments will change modestly in 2012.

The 2010 actual figures, projected 2011 figures, and forecasted 2012 figures are as follows:

• Commercial air conditioning: Actual shipments in 2010 were 38,778. The projected year-end figure for 2011 shows an increase of 1 percent to 39,113, while the forecast for 2012 projects a 2 percent increase to 39,954.

• Residential air conditioning: Compared to the actual 2010 shipments of 192,950, the projected 2011 figure increases by 14 percent to 223,471. The 2012 forecast decreases over 2011 by 2 percent to 218,367.

• Residential furnaces: Actual 2010 shipments were 315,331. The projected year end figure for 2011 shows a decrease of 10 percent to 286,837. The forecast for 2012 increases over 2011 by 1 percent to 289,796.
