The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) recently shared analysis based on its 2009 Residential Energy Consumption Survey (RECS) data that reports on the increasing home size and energy use across the country.
Total energy consumption in homes has remained relatively stable for three decades as increased energy efficiency has offset the increase in the number and average size of housing units, according to the new data from the Residential Energy Consumption Survey (RECS) released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).
For decades, heating and cooling accounted for over half of all residential energy consumption in the United States. However, new estimates from the Residential Energy Consumption Survey (RECS) show that 48 percent of energy consumption in American homes during 2009 was used for heating and cooling, down from 58 percent in 1993.
