MISSISSAUGA, Ontario - Chair John Murphy of the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) has announced the most recent recipients of bursaries from HRAI's Orvil L. Davie Memorial Fund.

Samad Doosti (George Brown College, Toronto) is in his last year of the HVAC Technician Program and graduates in April. He has a background in mechanical engineering. When he came to Canada two years ago, he was faced with tough job market conditions and so decided to change his course of study, after learning information, which forecast a huge demand for qualified HVAC technicians. Before he started his studies, he found a full-time job with a heating contractor and so gained some practical experience. He demonstrates great enthusiasm for his chosen career.

Doosti will be presented with his award at the next Toronto Chapter meeting.

Grant Gray (College of the North Atlantic, St John's, Newfoundland) is enrolled in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning program and graduates in June. During the last year he has managed to maintain top marks in class while working part-time to pay his way through school. He recently was honored by RSES as 2002-2003 Refrigeration Student of the Year.

Doug Pike of the city of St. John's presented Gray with his award.

Recipients of the Orvil L. Davie Bursary award can apply it to their registration/tuition fees, training materials, or travel and living expenses related to their course of study. The Orvil L. Davie Memorial Fund was established in 1987 in honor of HRAI's first chair. The purpose of the fund is to encourage students to seek a career in the HVACR industry by providing bursaries to those requiring financial assistance. Over 70 percent of the current fund balance consists of direct donations from companies in the HVACR industry.
