Evaporative Cooling Without Adding Moisture

Indirex, a Bailey, CO-based company, has announced advancements in indirect evaporative cooling with its patent-pending Hex-Ex™ exchanger. This exchanger uses evaporation of water to cool the exchanger plates, which in turn cool the supply air stream. This provides the advantages of evaporative cooling without moisture addition.

One application for indirect cooling is precooling outside air for mechanical refrigeration air conditioners. By pre-cooling inlet air, the air conditioner operates with significant energy savings, the company says. Indirect cooling can also be used as first-stage cooling to reduce mechanical refrigeration run times and further reduce energy requirements.

The company is offering its technology in the QuantumKool™ portable cooler and soon in residential and commercial equipment.

Further information is available at the firm’s website, www.indirex cooling.com.
