WASHINGTON - The Small Business Survival Committee (SBSC) announced that Rep. Don Manzullo (R-Ill.), chairman of the House Small Business Committee, has been presented with SBSC's ‘Small Business Advocate of the Month' award for July 2004.

According to the SBSC, Manzullo's work and actionable measures on a range of small business issues - such as regulatory modernization, federal procurement, tax fairness and relief, and trading opportunities to facilitate small business access to overseas markets - have led to an environment where small businesses are leading the nation back to healthy levels of economic growth. His hearings focusing on solutions to fight rising health coverage costs for small firms have led to the enactment of Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), passage of Association Health Plan (AHP) legislation in the House, and the introduction of other legislative initiatives that will lead to tax fairness for small business with respect to health coverage, says the organization.

"Chairman Manzullo is small business's best friend in the House. He's passionate because he's been there. Growing up in a family-owned business, he knows the sacrifices and daily struggles faced by small business owners,' said SBSC President and CEO Karen Kerrigan in a statement announcing the award.
