JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Energy Systems Group (ESG) and Emory & Henry College (EHC) are partnering to implement $5 million in campus-wide building improvements designed to enhance energy efficiency, reduce costs, and improve the environment for staff and students.

ESG developed a long-term plan and implementation program design to retrofit existing heating and cooling equipment, improve lighting in all buildings, and provide water conservation throughout the campus.

This reduces energy consumption and increases user comfort at more than 25 buildings. ESG will also install new air conditioning in three large dorms and replace windows in one of the largest campus dorms. The cafeteria and kitchen facilities will receive major improvements to further increase energy efficiency and enhance operations. Additionally, ESG is installing a new central steam plant and is upgrading the campus steam distribution system to increase the reliability and availability of coal-based steam heating while reducing the overall costs by leveraging new equipment and centralization.

To tie this project from an engineering and operations perspective, ESG is installing campus-wide automation systems to help the staff better control energy use and equipment operation.
