RICHMOND, Va., and Mansfield, Ohio - Tridium Inc. and Com-Trol, a division of Invensys plc, have collaborated on the development of a new controller built using the Niagara software platform, Tridium's third-generation automation framework. Com-Trol recently introduced Crysalisâ„¢, a new line of commercial refrigeration and building systems controllers built using the Niagara platform at the FMI show in Chicago.

By adopting Niagara as its development platform, Com-Trol significantly reduced development cost and shortened time to market thanks to Niagara's comprehensive software platform, say the companies. Niagara includes a Web-based GUI builder, communications driver toolkit, real-time control engine, alarm manager, and reporting tools.

John Petze, president and CEO of Tridium believes this relationship is significant for two reasons. "First, adoption of the Niagara by companies like Com-Trol, validates the Niagara technology as a cost effective solution for building Internet-based applications for control and automation. And secondly, we are pleased to strengthen and expand our existing relationship with Invensys through Com-Trol."

"Com-Trol recognizes that our customers must find new ways to manage and operate increasingly complex systems and equipment, while at the same time significantly reducing installation and operating costs," says Samir Menon, director of Retail Solutions for Com-Trol. "Using Niagara allows us the ability to combine Invensys' proven family of LON-based HVAC and lighting controls with Com-Trol's popular family of refrigeration controllers."

"Remote devices are becoming ubiquitous throughout the economy," Petze said. "By embracing the Niagara standard, manufacturers of diverse products from lighting controls to boilers and HVAC systems ensure that they all work well with each other for the benefit of the ultimate customer, the building owner intent upon managing costs."
