Xcel Energy (Minneapolis, MN), Cinergy Global Power, and enXco Inc. announced that a second commercial wind farm in Colorado is generating electricity. The wind farm is located near Peetz in northeastern Colorado and can generate up to 30 MW of electricity for Xcel’s Windsource program.

Cinergy Global Power, an affiliate of Cinergy Corp. in Cincinnati, OH, owns the wind farm, known as the Peetz Table Wind Power Plant. The facility was developed by enXco, based in North Palm Springs, CA. Xcel Energy will purchase 77 gigawatt-hours of electricity per year from the facility, through a 15-year contract.

The new wind farm at Peetz uses 33 state-of-the-art NEG Micon turbines. Each can generate up to 900 kW. Each unit consists of 170-ft-dia rotors and a turbine, set on a 237-ft-high tower.
