Two Nevada utilities — Sierra Pacific Power Company and Nevada Power Company — recently received 49 proposals totaling almost 4,300 MW in response to their request for renewable energy project proposals. Of the proposals, 3,000 MW would be generated from wind power, 784 from geothermal and biomass, and 385 from solar power. The bids were requested to meet a new state law that requires the utilities to gradually increase the percentage of power they generate from renewable energy sources.
