United Solar Systems Corp. (Troy, MI) announced that it will design and install a 400-kW solar electric system for Texaco. The system will be used to provide power to Texaco's Central Valley oil field operations in California. To be installed in phases, Texaco will have the option of expanding the system to up to 1MW, which would make it one of the largest photovoltaic installations in the world, the solar company says.

United Solar is a joint venture between Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. (Troy, MI) and N.V. Bekaert S.A. (Kortrijk, Belgium).
