Randy Jones of DaimlerChrysler Vans LLC talks about his company’s Ultimate Fuel Gauge.
ORLANDO, Fla. - DaimlerChrysler Vans showed off its "Ultimate Fuel Gauge" to the trade press during a special press conference at the 2005 AHR Expo. Randy Jones, communications manager, demonstrated how the gauge works.

"We are here showing heating and cooling contractors how much they can save on fuel costs by operating the Freightliner Sprinter van," he said. Jones added that the Sprinter is the "most efficient commercial van in the business."

The Ultimate Fuel Gauge calculates the operating cost of the Sprinter compared to similar Ford, Chevrolet, or GMC models. Owners of these models can use a special Web link to enter data such as annual vehicle usage, current fuel mileage, and the average cost of gas in their region.

According to DaimlerChrysler Vans, distributor of the Sprinter, this "national program was created to highlight fuel consciousness and cost-saving alternatives by allowing professional contractors to compare how much they could save in fuel costs by switching to a more fuel-efficient cargo van, like the Freightliner Sprinter."

Jones said that if all owners of the three competitive vans would have switched to the Sprinter last year, they would have collectively saved $75,677,211.15. That calculation was based on comparisons made using the Ultimate Fuel Gauge.
