ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - The Board of Standards Review of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has approved as an American National Standard the Air Movement and Control Association International (AMCA International) standard ANSI/AMCA 240-06, "Laboratory Methods of Testing Positive Pressure Ventilators for Aerodynamic Performance Rating." This is a revision to the 1996 version which simplifies the text by referencing many of the testing requirements that are duplicated from AMCA 210 and restricts the test speed of gasoline powered units to the maximum loaded engine rpm allowed by the engine manufacturer.

Positive pressure ventilators are portable fan units that can be positioned relative to an opening of a confined space and cause it to be positively pressurized by discharge air velocity. They are principally used by firefighters to mitigate the effects of smoke. The standard provides a method of testing positive pressure ventilators for performance ratings in terms of airflow rate, pressure, air density, and speed of rotation.
