MISSISSAUGA, Ontario - The Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI), with the support of the Mechanical Contractors of Ontario (MCAO) and the Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH) were instrumental in obtaining the extension of the implementation date for Ontario Regulation 305/03. The regulation requires that any person preparing and submitting designs to municipalities for review and approval must obtain a provincial registration number upon completion of a series of provincial examinations based on the contents of the applicable section of the Ontario Building Code.

The Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing issued an amendment extending the implementation date of Ontario Regulation 305/03 (formerly Bill 124) from July 1, 2005 to Jan. 1, 2006.

John Gerretsen, Ontario Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, announced the extension to provide the industry with additional time to comply with the designer registration requirements of the regulation. With the additional support of HRAI members independently expressing concern directly to the minister and other important stakeholders, the industry successfully convinced the government that more time was needed. According to HRAI, it is now incumbent upon the industry to continue focusing on completing the registration process to comply with the regulation.
