ARLINGTON, Va. - The Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) have a new online training video. The video, created by Jack Bartell of York International, gives a complete step-by-step tutorial on how to use the Excel-based residential load calculation worksheet in relation to the Manual J8-Abridged Edition (ae). In order to complete the tutorial, it is recommended that users have the Manual J8 ae and the Excel residential load calculation worksheet (J1ae), both available at www.manualj.com. After a brief introduction and a few screens of instruction, the user will be asked to complete a quiz to demonstrate understanding. There are multiple brief quizzes throughout the program that allow the user a measurement of their understanding.

The J1ae worksheet guides the user to the appropriate tables for entering Manual J values. "Once the values appropriate for a given geographic area and housing type are entered into the spreadsheet, a typical block load analysis can be completed in less than 10 minutes," said Glenn Hourahan, ACCA vice president for research & technology. Not only does the tutorial show the user how to input the values, it also provides rules and regulations directly on the page to promote accurate data entry. "One advantage of performing the load calculation using the electronic spreadsheet included with the manual is that it reduces the possibility of mathematical errors creeping in," Hourahan said.
