WAUNAKEE, Wis. - Retired heating contractor Paul Hughes is feeling a little lucky - or highly skilled. The 74-year-old Waunakee man bowled a 300 game and made a hole-in-one on the golf course in less than a 24-hour period in mid-October.

He bowled the perfect game at Bowling Green lanes in Middleton, Wis., and sank the hole-in-one on the 149-yard fifth hole at the Pleasant View golf course in Middleton.

Ted Donker, director of golf operations at Pleasant View, confirmed that Hughes hit the hole-in-one. Terry Knight, the bowling alley's manager, confirmed the perfect game.

Hughes previously hit a hole-in-one in 2000 and has bowled three other perfect games.

Hughes said that he prefers golf because it's an outdoor sport, but he thinks bowling a perfect game is a bigger accomplishment, noting that it requires "12 perfect shots."
