Mechanical Air Service of San Jose, Calif., and Timberline Heating & Air Conditioning of Redding, Calif., were both finalists in the Commercial category of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America’s (ACCA’s) first annual “Best Contractors on the Web” Internet Marketing Awards.

“We were very pleased that more than 100 contractors submitted their Web sites for consideration,” said Kevin W. Holland, ACCA vice president for Communications & Membership Services. “But we were even more excited over the caliber of the entries. It’s apparent that many HVAC contractors, small and large alike, have embraced the Web as a proper extension of their marketing programs. I know the judges had a very difficult time winnowing down the field to finalists and winners.”

The overall winner in the Commercial category was CSI of Maspeth, N.Y. Judges’ comments regarding the winning site included “This was far above average for contractors,” and, “Great design, great branding, good customer information, very interactive.”

In addition to Mechanical Air Service and Timberline Heating & Air Conditioning, other finalists included CMS Mechanical of Melbourne, Fla., and Grady Mechanical of Orlando, Fla.

In the Residential category, Deiter Brothers of Bethlehem, Penn., took top honors. Judges' comments included “Really clean, high-style site, good quality content ... the functionality is strong, too,” and, “Nice interface ... Good format for building an online customer database ... Nice consumer interaction, ordering service and info online is great, accepting payments online is unique.”

Other finalists for the Residential award included Isaac Heating & Air Conditioning of Rochester, N.Y.; JC Heating & Cooling of Cross Lanes, W.V.; Schaafsma Heating & Cooling of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Roth Heating & Air of Wichita, Kan.; and Peaden Air Conditioning & Heating of Panama City, Fla.

In the special Small Contractor category — for contractors with less than $500,000 in revenues — judges recognized two finalists: Selvey Heating & Cooling of Rossville, Ind., and Luttmann Enterprises of Carlinville, Ill.

“We salute all of the entrants for their commitment to professionalism and quality,” said Paul T. Stalknecht, ACCA president and CEO. “These Web sites make for great object lessons for other contractors to follow when developing Web sites that enhance their marketing programs. And we hope to see even more entries in our 2004 ‘Best Contractors on the Web’ program next year.”
