The EnergyPro two-way thermostat contains an embedded radio frequency (RF) transceiver. The thermostat is designed to allow utility companies with demand response programs and participating customers to send and receive data. The end user can retain control of the indoor environment by overriding a demand response event via the Internet or the thermostat. For retrofitting, this thermostat does not require new wires or a separate box located at the furnace; the current thermostat is unhooked and the new thermostat is put in its place. Then, it is connected wirelessly to the local RF network. Cannon Technologies incorporates this thermostat into Yukon, an energy software package, using a broadband connection to control the thermostat. The thermostat can be used as a stand-alone unit.
