PHOENIX, AZ — The State of Arizona Registrar of Contractors is offering the public a free brochure to advise consumers on how to select and hire licensed contractors for remodeling or construction projects, including HVACR projects.

It is illegal to contract in the state of Arizona without a license. The brochure is designed to educate consumers and help them to not become a victim of scam artists that may prey on unsuspecting homeowners. The brochure offers tips on how to research and interview contractors, how to verify a license and review a company’s claim history, and how to review the status of a contractor.

Consumers can download a printable version of the brochure by visiting the Registrar of Contractors’ website at www.rc.state.az.us or by calling 602-542-1525; outside Maricopa County, 888-271-9286.

The Arizona Registrar of Contractors’ website also offers the ability to research the bonding information and complaint histories of Arizona licensed contractors. The feature allows users to search by company names, names of principals, or license number, and offers a summary that lists a two-year history of complaints filed with the Registrar of Contractors, including those that were resolved or dismissed and those that are still open and pending action.

The mission of the registrar is to promote quality construction by Arizona licensed contractors through a licensing and regulatory system designed to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
