SPOKANE, WA — Edward J. Ames, former president of Colmac Coil Manufacturing in Colville, WA, from 1990-96, passed away Dec. 19, 2001, here in Spokane. He was 67.

Mr. Ames earned a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois and was a licensed P.E. in the states of Washington and Wisconsin. Hired at Colmac in 1980, Mr. Ames served as chief engineer and plant manager prior to becoming president. He retired from the company in 1996 and established the E.J. Ames Co. in 1997. Mr. Ames represented Colmac Coil for four years and achieved the company’s “Top Rep Sales” award for the year 2000.

“A life member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, he was active on national and local levels since 1964 and was highly respected throughout the hvacr industry,” according to an announcement from Colmac. He served on several ASHRAE technical committees and was elected “Engineer of the Year” by the Inland Empire Association chapter. In 1998, Mr. Ames accepted an invitation from the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration to participate as an instructor at their industrial ammonia refrigeration workshop.

Mr. Ames was active in the Lutheran Church and enjoyed fishing. He is survived by his wife Patricia, five children, and 10 grandchildren.
