ST. LOUIS, MO — According to the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA), a group of labor unions and trade associations have proposed an agreement that would guarantee that St. Louis-area construction job sites will have no lockouts, strikes, picketing, or other labor disruptions involving their workforce.

The organization said that the “Contract for Principles of Fairness” was developed to guarantee safer jobsites, fair contract terms, good labor relations, and the use of a skilled AFL-CIO unionized workforce.

Owners, contractors, and unions will voluntarily sign the contract, which SMACNA believes will solve the challenges of jurisdictional and productivity issues and render construction jobsites more efficient.

The agreement was initially endorsed by a number of organizations and groups, including the Mechanical Contractors Association of Eastern Missouri Inc., the St. Louis Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association, and Sheet Metal Workers’ International Association Local 36.
