HARRISBURG, PA — G. R. Sponaugle & Sons, Inc. recently won the Harrisburg Builders Exchange Craftsman Award for its work at the Gettysburg Science Center. The award recognizes outstanding design and installation performance.

The Gettysburg Science Center is a state-of-the-art facility located in historic Gettysburg, PA. The new facility, once construction is finalized, will be an 86,000-square-foot learning center that houses various classrooms and collaborative research facilities for the natural sciences.

Some of the solutions provided by Sponaugle included integrated services such as in-shop ductwork assembly which reduced onsite workload, specialized ductwork design, limited access area installation, and enhanced methods of divisional interaction. The entire project encompassed various aspects and elements of the company and its expertise.

Other unique aspects and elements of the project included the steeply pitched roof which could have easily hindered performance, the large amount of equipment and piping that was installed in a confined area, and the allotted time frame which led to the implementation of fast track project methodologies.

Since the building was designed to operate as functioning research and learning facility, specialized components were used throughout including acid waste piping, deionized water systems, medical gas systems, specialized fume hoods, and both negative and positive air balancing equipment.
