Modular outside air conditioning systems (MOACS), from Des Champs Laboratories, are available in six pre-engineered models for heat recovery and humidity control.
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — You could shout it from the rooftops (if their manufacturers would allow you to get up on them), that there weren’t a lot of packaged units at the 2002 International Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Exposition (AHR Expo). But there was a representation of packaged hvac, including rooftop units, for visitors to take a look at.

The new RSI Nesbitt (Cleveland, OH) high-efficiency rooftop systems are designed for retrofit and new construction applications. RSI is producing the original Nesbitt rooftop multizone units with an improved galvanized casing, designed with a three-break sloped roof. Cooling capacities range from 17 to 32 nominal tons.

The units are said to weigh no more than their original aluminum counterparts and will mount on an existing roof curb without structural modification. Existing control zones and duct connections can be maintained with little or no modification. Units are available for use with natural gas, propane, steam, or electric heating elements.

Replacement units ranging from 17 through 60 tons are offered for single-zone, multizone, and vav systems.

Des Champs Laboratories Inc. (Natural Bridge Station, VA) showed its family of modular outside air conditioning systems (MOACS). These six pre-engineered models, designed for heat recovery and humidity control, range from 1,000 to 10,000 scfm. Each of the models offers several module configurations with options.

Modules and options include: fans; heat pipe heat exchangers; rotary heat exchangers; DX or chilled-water coil sections; antimicrobial filters with 30% or 90% efficiency ratings; integral or remote condensing units; gas, electric, hot gas, or hydronic heating modules; and utility modules for field-installed components.

The condensing unit, which can be integral to the structure, features an 11-EER and mix-matched multiple compressors for optimum capacity control without the need for hot-gas bypass, the company said.

Other standard, predesigned packages include CompleVent® total energy recovery ventilators with supplemental heating options, CompleVent CDS to economically condition incoming outdoor air, and Wringer® ES units to control delivery dewpoint without overcooling. The company also produces custom engineered packages.

SMALL PACKAGES

Horizontal self-contained, air-cooled, water-cooled, heat pump, and chilled-water systems were shown byUnited CoolAir Corp.(York, PA). The company says these units are well suited for problem areas such as those separate from main locations, add-ons, electrical equipment rooms, limited access areas, renovations, and rehab projects.

Verticool SS units are vertical packaged systems designed for space savings. They are said to be up to 60% smaller than conventional vertical a/c systems. The high-efficiency evaporator coil reduces the amount of surface area required for even cooling, the company says. Capacities range from 2 to 15 tons.

CoolSpot packaged systems provide specialized cooling for spot applications. The air-cooled, water-cooled, and chilled-water units provide localized cooling when space alterations and modifications in room usage are made.

The Eubank (Longview, TX) A Series electric air handler features unitized, galvanized steel construction and a fully insulated, painted cabinet designed for extra-quiet operation, says the company. The unit offers from 1.5- to 5-ton air-handling capacities, and field- or factory-installed electric heat up to 20 kW. Electric heat is factory installed on 25-kW models.

Petra Engineering Industries (Amman, Jordan) announced that it has received a new ETL listing for the U.S. market. The company’s products include rooftop units, air-handling units, and fancoil units.

The firm displayed its new CM compact air-handling units with up to two selectable coils. The customer can select a two- to six-row cooling coil and one- to three-row heating coil. Capacities range from 1,500 to 9,600 cfm.
