FALLS CHURCH, VA — The International Code Council (ICC) announced that it has no plans for the development of an electrical code that would duplicate the purpose and then compete with the National Electrical Code (NEC).

In response to questions from segments of the construction industry, ICC is restating its policy regarding electrical codes. The council was formed with the goal of creating greater uniformity in building regulations in the country.

“ICC’s production of an electrical code would run counter to ICC’s mission of a single set of national model construction codes,” said Larry Ball, ICC chairman. “ICC has accomplished its mission with the publication of the family of 2000 International Codes® and it is not the intent of ICC to jeopardize that accomplishment.”
