RALEIGH, NC — CP&L, a subsidiary of Progress Energy, has teamed up with General Electric-Zurich Warranty Management Inc. to offer its Appliance Service Plus program.

CP&L provides electricity and related services to more than 1.2 million customers in North Carolina and South Carolina. For $16.99 a month, the service program covers a household's refrigerator, range, oven, built-in microwave oven, built-in dishwasher, and clothes washer and dryer.

Customers can upgrade the appliance coverage to include heating and cooling systems, water heaters, and plumbing. If a covered appliance breaks down, the customer calls a repair line and, after verifying coverage, a GE-authorized repairperson will visit the customer's home for a flat fee of $50 to make repairs. There are no additional charges for labor or parts, and if the appliance cannot be repaired, it will be replaced with a new one of similar features and functionality.
