ROSSALYN, VA — The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) recently reaffirmed two standards. The organization reaffirmed ICS 10-1993 (R2000), “Industrial Control and Systems, Part 1: Electromechanical AC Transfer Switch Equipment,” and ICS 1.3-1986 (R2001), “Preventive Maintenance of Industrial Control and Systems Equipment.”

The publication of ICS 10-1993 covers the requirements of electro-mechanical automatic and non-automatic transfer switches and bypass isolation switches rated 600 vac or less, 60 Hz, for use on single-phase and polyphase ac circuits. The standard also provides information on ratings, classification, construction, marking, and the tests intended to confirm that the device meets these conditions.

ICS 1.3 covers fundamental principles, safety precautions, and common guidelines for preventative maintenance of most industrial control and systems equipment. It is intended as a maintenance guide to supplement more specific maintenance instructions for particular product lines as well as many other NEMA standards.

NEMA has also released two revised standards, ANSI C37.46-2000, “For High Voltage Expulsion and Current-Limiting Type Power Class Fuses and Fuse Disconnecting Switches,” and ANSI C37.47-2000, “For High-Voltage Current-Limiting Type Distribution Class Fuses and Fuse Disconnecting Switches.”
