ST. LOUIS, MO — The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association, Inc. (SMACNA) announced that its union membership ratified a five-year membership, effective September 1, 2001.

In its press release, SMACNA said, “A mutual goal was achieved during the negotiations: substantially increased wage and fringe benefit packages for apprentices.

“There are tremendous opportunities for men and women entering the Sheet Metal Industry that are willing to learn and work.”

Jack Goldkamp, SMACNA president, said the agreement has pulled the Sheet Metal Workers and Sheet Metal Contractors “together as never before.”

SMACNA and SMWIA Local 36 also announced their pledge of $5,000 to the American Red Cross for disaster relief in New York City and Washington D.C.

“It is important to demonstrate our unity and support during this time of crisis,” said Goldkamp.
