The movement of frozen food throughout the Southeast has gotten a bit easier.

Georgia Freezer, one of the Southeast’s largest public refrigerated warehousing (PRW) companies offering blast freezing and frozen food storage, has completed a $7 million expansion that more than doubles the size of its Cartersville facility. The original facility opened in September 1996.

Said Mike Williams, plant manager, “We’re having to grow to better serve and surpass increasing production needs [of our customers]. Their success is driving our success.”

The expanded plant equals roughly two football fields in total area, 100 yards long and 100 yards wide. The new construction added 17,000 pallet positions for a total of 25,000. Another 16 dock doors also were added, allowing up to 27 trucks to be served at one time, Williams said.

The blast freezers are able to handle up to 800,000 lb of product per day.

Georgia Freezer is owned and operated by Associated Freezers, Ltd., of Toronto, ON, Canada, the fifth-largest public refrigerated warehousing company in North America. It operates 21 PRWs across Canada and the United States. The Cartersville plant is one of three Georgia Freezer/Associated Freezer locations in Georgia.
