Fuel cells equipped with MagneTek (Nashville, TN) digital power modules have begun providing electricity to the U.S. Postal Service Center in Anchorage, AK. Installed and operated by the Chugach Electric Association, the 1-MW fuel cell array is believed to be the nation’s largest assured-power commercial fuel cell system to date, and the first to be linked to an electric utility’s power transmission grid. The five fuel cells in the system were developed and manufactured by International Fuel Cells (South Windsor, CT), a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp.

Emerson Electric Co. (St. Louis, MO) was again ranked among the best-managed companies in the world, according to the editors of IndustryWeek magazine and a panel of international experts. Emerson is one of 36 companies that have been named to the magazine’s 100 Best-Managed Companies list each of the past five years.

Worthington Cylinders (Columbus, OH) announces that it has added DOT-39 non-refillable cylinder production at its facility in Vale De Cambra, Portugal, to better serve global customer demand. In addition, the company added refillable refrigerant cylinder production at its Hustopece, Czech Republic facility, which is currently producing 12.5-, 14.3-, 19-, 27.2-, and 61-l cylinders, to meet global demand for refillable cylinders.

Beckett Corp. (Irving, TX) announces plans to relocate its Industrial/OEM Products design, development, and manufacturing operations to a new facility in Dallas, TX. The move, scheduled for completion by year’s end, is part of the company’s new growth initiative. With 186,000 sq ft, the Dallas facility will nearly double production capacity.

Phoenix DataComm, Inc. (PDI; Norristown, PA), announces that it plans to merge with Monitel Products Corp. (Morris Plains, NJ). Monitel, which will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of PDI, will add its patented telephony-based solution to PDI’s wireless monitoring system.

PDI also announces that it plans to merge with Logistix Capital Inc. d.b.a. StarTrak (Morris Plains, NJ). StarTrak, which will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of PDI, will add a satellite solution.
