Students from vocational high schools, technical colleges, and correctional institution educational programs wrote in explaining why their instructors deserved to win. The students extolled their instructors’ technical achievements as well as their teaching methods. We read about how the instructors were not just teachers, but friends and mentors.

Needless to say, the number of worthy candidates was overwhelming, and finding one overall winner was a daunting task. For this first-ever contest, the votes were so close that The News decided to name two runners up as well as an overall winner. Five other instructors also received honorable mention.
