Phil Meyers

WAIKOLOA, HI — Phil Meyers had more than 30 years in the sheet metal trade at Apex Ventilating when he embarked on a new challenge three years ago as owner of his own company, Bright Sheet Metal, located in Indianapolis, IN.

As if that wasn’t enough, Meyers is now the new president of SMACNA. He replaces George Edinger Sr. of C&R Mechanical Co., Bridgeton, MO, who moved on to serve as immediate past president.

“As SMACNA president, I see no need to rock the boat and therefore pledge to maintain the continuity of SMACNA programs into the year 2001,” Meyers told his fellow members. “Stay the course and intensify our execution is my pledge.”

Others installed are:

  • President-elect Ron Rodgers, J.B. Rodgers Mechanical Contractors Inc.-Kinetics, Phoenix, AZ;
  • Secretary/treasurer Jack Desmond, Cox Engineering Co., Canton, MA; and
  • Vice president Mark Watson, Climate Engineers, Inc., Cedar Rapids, IA.

    In other business, SMACNA elected four members to its board of directors.

  • Serving four-year terms are:

  • Edmund Bransfield, William J. Donovan Co., Philadelphia, PA;
  • Richard Cramer, Dee Cramer, Inc., Flint, MI;
  • Paul Keohane, C.M.F. Inc., Orange, CA; and
  • Robert Tuck, Atlas Heating and Air Conditioning Co., Oakland, CA.
  • The association also recognized L. William Zahner as its Contractor of the Year. Zahner is director of Rimex Metals of New Jersey and president of Zahner Architectural Metal Consultants in Kansas City, MO.

    “Artists trust his firm to bring their designs and dreams to life,” said outgoing president Edigner. “Most notably, the highly claimed architect and artist Frank O. Gehry relies on our Contractor of the Year’s firm to make his art a reality, as exemplified by the craftsmanship of the Experience Music Project in Seattle.”
