The Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association (PHCC) of Alabama has launched an online apprenticeship program for hvac and plumbing apprentices.

Called “Targets for Learning,” the online “video-streamed” program provides a standardized four-year curriculum, mandated by U.S. Department of Labor standards, for the hvac and plumbing trades. The 48-week instruction consists of three hours per week classroom (accessing the Internet at contractor’s place of business), plus on-the-job training by the employer. The student has seven days to complete the three hours per week of classroom work.

The Alabama program is certified by the U.S. Dept. of Labor, approved by the Alabama Dept. of Education, Veteran’s Administration-certified, and is PHCC-National Association accredited.

The total yearly cost per apprentice utilizing the Alabama Apprentice Program is $1,000 per year (for PHCC members) and is expected to drop as more students join the program.
