CHARLESTON, RI – John Hazen White Sr., chairman of Taco, Inc., died on March 28, 2001. He was 87.

In 1920, White’s father, Elmwood White, started Taco, then known as the Thermal Appliance Equipment Company.

White built the company into a leading manufacturer of hydronic pumps and related equipment. He has guided the company through many product innovations and developments for commercial and residential applications. He was also responsible for starting the Taco Learning Center in 1992, which provides on-site training for Taco employees and offers over 100 courses.

His son, John Hazen White Jr., Taco’s president and ceo, succeeds him in the family business. In addition to his son, he is survived by his wife of 64 years, four daughters, 13 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
