Name: Marcus Melrose

Title: HVAC specialist, Samm’s Heating & Air Conditioning, Plano, Texas

Why He’s Tech of the Month: After six years of corporate limitations and feeling as if his work life was on auto pilot, Marcus Melrose was craving an opportunity to advance in his career. After looking into a trade school that helped him obtain his U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) air conditioning and refrigeration certification, he was ready to move forward in his professional life. It was then that he landed at Samm’s Heating and Air Conditioning in Plano, Texas.

“From the day I sat across Paul Sammataro’s desk during my initial interview, I’ve enjoyed that he is a straight shooter and someone who not only encourages professional progress but provides opportunities for career advancement,” said Melrose.

Melrose quickly proved himself, and Sammataro noticed his outstanding work ethic right away. Since then, Sammataro says that Melrose has become an integral part of the Samm’s team.

“Marcus has been a professional since day one,” Sammataro said. “He has always been open to learning and increasing his value to the company and our clients. He is there for anyone when needed and has been open to expanding his knowledge to others and his opportunities to help himself and Samm’s grow. He is vital to the vision of our company, and we are thankful to have him as a key member of the team.”

Melrose’s favorite part of the job is educating customers. He loves the fact that he can help customers make informed decisions while quoting them a fair price.

“Knowledge is power, and if I can help customers make informed decisions about their HVAC needs, then I can sleep well at night knowing they were treated fairly,” said Melrose. Furthermore, he likes that the HVAC industry is a giving one. Technicians are privy to helping their coworkers, and he finds the support infrastructure an extremely helpful resource.

“Manufacturers, distributors, publications, and other online sources have been beneficial with useful information within this industry. Also, I have observed many contractors helping other contractors in need of help, which is remarkably generous,” he said.

Melrose continues to grow in his HVAC career. Currently, he is in the beginning stages of transitioning into design and sales. He’s looking forward to utilizing the skills he has acquired from being a technician to design a system that is the best solution for his customers’ needs.

And his boss is pleased with his eagerness to grow, stating, “Some people are satisfied with just getting through their day. Marcus is able to see the big picture and take a chance at new ideas and opportunities.”
