KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Interstate Mechanical Contractors (IMC) has announced the launch of a new company — Interstate Mechanical Service (IMS). Interstate Mechanical said this new business is a result of the demand from customers seeking service for HVAC, plumbing, and controls.

While mechanical and plumbing service has been a division of IMC since 1996, the new company is solely focused on providing HVAC, plumbing, and controls services to commercial and industrial facilities such as schools, health care facilities, worship centers, and retail establishments in Knoxville and the east Tennessee region. In addition to providing general services, IMS offers 24/7 emergency service for its clients.

“Through this new service-focused business, we will assist facilities with the management of their building operations, while also identifying energy-saving solutions to help them save on costs,” said Chris Smith, manager of IMS. “By combining HVAC, plumbing, and controls services under one company, we’re able to eliminate the need for multiple contracts and be more responsive to our customers’ needs.”

Since 1982, IMC has been primarily known for HVAC/plumbing commercial and industrial construction, but Interstate Mechanical’s president and CEO Terry Self noted in recent years they have seen an uptick in the demand for on-call, 24/7 service.

“Interstate has been providing service and repair for a long time, but now we have grown to the point to where our service division should now stand as its own, established business,” said Self.

“It’s incredible to see how far Interstate has come — from starting out with five employees to now functioning in two companies with almost 150 employees. This change allows Interstate to be a one-stop shop for all things mechanical.”
