The Modular Silicon Expansion Valve (MSEV) from DunAn Microstaq.

The Modular Silicon Expansion Valve (MSEV) from DunAn Microstaq (DMQ) is a fast-responding electronic expansion valve that can be used in a variety of refrigeration applications, including display cases, freezers, and walk-in and reach-in coolers. It is embedded with DMQ’s silQflo™ Silicon Servo Valve (SSV), a microvalve designed to control fluid pressure or flow rates with high precision at ultrafast response times. The silQflo SSV received an honorable mention in the 2015 AHR EXPO Innovation Awards within the refrigeration category.

The MSEV is a two-stage proportional control valve. In the first stage, the silQfloTM SSV microvalve acts as a pilot valve that controls the second stage spool valve. When the microvalve receives a pulse-width modulation signal, it modulates to change the pressure differential across the second stage spool valve. The spool will move to balance the pressure differential, thereby changing the orifice opening of the valve to control the desired amount of refrigerant flow. According to DMQ, the MSEV provides precise superheat control and quick mass flow adjustments. The MSEV comes in a single footprint that accommodates different spool designs to cater to various valve capacities.
