Polar Technology has announced that the supermarket chain Stater Bros. is implementing a cloud-based refrigerant management program called TrakRef.

The chain owns and operates 167 supermarkets in the California counties of San Bernardino, Riverside, Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, and Kern. The chain has a 2,300-square-foot corporate office and distribution center in the city of San Bernardino, where TrakRef will be used to manage all the stores.

Refrigerant emissions affect the environment and company operating costs, Polar said in an announcement, noting TrakRef provides the ability to manage multiple supermarket locations and provide real-time visibility regarding inventory, usage, leaks, repairs, and disposal. The technology also provides the ability to automatically upload data into the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) Refrigerant Registration and Reporting System and provides other regulatory reporting. This saves hundreds of hours of manually entering data, the company said.

Ted Atwood, president of Polar Technology, said, “We are proud to partner with Stater Bros. Their passion for managing the refrigerant investment and compliance is a step in the right direction and we are proud to offer a solution that can help them save time and money.”
