MILWAUKEE — The Luxaire® brand of Johnson Controls supported two events that together generated nearly $90,000 for Make-A-Wish Oklahoma.

The Walk For Wishes® event raised $24,000 for Make-A-Wish Oklahoma, including a $5,000 donation from Luxaire. Powered by wish families, volunteers, donors, and friends of Make-A-Wish, this signature grassroots fundraising event took place in Lions Club Park at Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City. Following the two-mile walk-a-thon, participants enjoyed a children’s carnival, complete with carnival games and food. In addition, one attending family shared its story to help the public better understand the positive impact that Make-A-Wish provides.

“We were thrilled to be part of the first Walk for Wishes for the Oklahoma chapter,” said Ericka, mother of 4-year-old wish child Reece. “Make-A-Wish Oklahoma has had a major impact on our family, giving us hope and joy when we had little. Our wish trip was something to look forward to, something to keep us running. Walk for Wishes is a great event to let others know about the great things Make-A-Wish does for children and families in need.”

Luxaire also sponsored the annual “If Purses Were Wishes & More” event, held at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club. The luncheon attracted 410 guests, who had the chance to bid on a collection of handbags, jewelry, and designer accessories donated from various boutiques, individuals, and celebrities across the state.

Attendees also heard from wish mom Erika, who said, “Make-A-Wish taught us that there are happy things in the world and a bright light at the end of the tunnel. What meant the most to us is that what happens in Oklahoma stays in Oklahoma. Looking at all these seats, I don’t see people; I see wishes being granted. I see more kids being privileged to go on wish trips, because your donations and your heartfelt giving are going to go straight to our Oklahoma kids, and that just makes my heart smile.”

The luncheon and auction raised $65,000 for Make-A-Wish Oklahoma, including a $5,000 donation from Luxaire. “We are thrilled to be able to contribute to events like this,” said Steve Hoffins, senior brand manager, unitary products, Johnson Controls. “Supporting Make-A-Wish activities means we are delivering hope and smiles to families in the communities where we live and work. At the same time, we’re able to offer our contractors and distributors a program that truly differentiates them in the market.”
