NEW YORK — Steven Winter Associates Inc. (SWA) was among four engineering firms in New York City recognized for achieving double the amount of energy savings required for projects completed through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Multifamily Performance Program (MPP). The other firms that received honors were the Association for Energy Affordability (AEA), Power Concepts, and SustainAbility Partners. The winning projects maximize efficiency to reduce energy consumption, costs, and waste in multifamily buildings, while providing a more comfortable, healthy, and sustainable environment for residents.

SWA received the Deep Savings Award for New Construction and the Installer Award for New Construction. The Deep Savings Award was presented for contributions made to the VIP Hughes Gardens project in the Bronx, where a savings of 32 percent was achieved when compared to the energy use of conventional new construction. The Installer Award recognizes the highest installed savings across an MPP partner’s new construction portfolio. New construction projects by SWA saved 13,498 million Btu in a 10-month period.

“We have worked closely with the MPP program since its inception because of the substantial benefit that it provides to building owners. We are honored to have received these awards, and look forward to our continued partnership with NYSERDA,” said Ryan Merkin, senior vice president and director of multifamily energy services, SWA.

As a NYSERDA MPP partner, SWA has helped over 230 building owners and developers navigate their projects through the program. The NYSERDA MPP supports building owners through incentives for reducing energy waste, and helps them to realize a significant financial savings for their projects. The program is available to both affordable housing and market-rate multifamily developments, and can be applied to new construction as well as existing buildings.
