BPI-1100-T-201x: Home Energy Auditing Standard provides the requirements for a building-science-based evaluation of existing detached single-family dwellings and townhouses that meet specific criteria detailed in the scope of the standard. The evaluation addresses energy usage and limited aspects of building durability and occupant health and safety, provides a comprehensive scope of work to improve the home, and includes a cost-benefit analysis.

BPI-1200-S-201x: Standard Practice for Basic Analysis of Buildings parallels BPI-1100-T-201x and provides specific procedures regarding how to meet the requirements detailed in the Home Energy Auditing Standard. Although this standard is primarily focused on energy conservation measures and criteria, it does extend beyond these measures to address the building as a whole.

The Home Energy Auditing Standard and the Standard Practice for Basic Analysis of Buildings were developed by working groups created by BPI’s Standards Technical Committee (STC) and comprised of subject matter experts representing a variety of interest categories and geographical locations. The STC recently approved these standards, which, in turn, were approved by BPI's board of directors.

BPI-1100-T-201x and BPI-1200-S-201x are currently undergoing American National Standards Institute (ANSI) review, which includes a public comment period as defined under BPI’s standards development process. Comments are being solicited from stakeholders and the general public.
