July 26, 2013: ACCA Publishes New ComforTool on Locking Cap Requirements

Homeowners May Not Be Aware That Huffing Is an Issue

July 26, 2013
ARLINGTON, Va. — The Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) has published its latest ComforTool for ACCA members, “Locking Caps Guard Against Huffing,” to help explain to customers why new codes require locking caps on outdoor air conditioners and heat pumps.

ComforTools are a series of brochures in PDF format, provided to ACCA members at no cost, which cover a variety of topics related to HVACR businesses including design, installation, regulatory issues, business practices, and incentives.

“ACCA ComforTools are one of our most used member benefits, because they are easy for the contractors to use and easy for the customers to understand,” said Paul T. Stalknecht, ACCA president and CEO. “Covering a safety topic such as locking caps is extremely important. Many homeowners may not be aware that huffing is an issue and may think that a locking cap is an unnecessary, additional expense. By educating them about the code requirement, contractors are not only helping to prevent the abuse of refrigerants, but helping the customer save money by not needing to recharge their systems frequently due to the abuse.”

ACCA members can download this new ComforTool, and any of the other ComforTools in the library, for free at www.acca.org/comfortools.
