TORONTO — The Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) and the Canadian Institute of Plumbing & Heating (CIPH) have agreed to a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish “a framework for cooperation in the continued development of the plumbing and heating industries through communication and cooperation.”

The need for the MOU came from the increased globalization of the construction industry, driving HRAI and CIPH to recognize the need to provide their members with access to timely information, data, and technical advancements to succeed in a changing global marketplace, stated the organizations in a press release.

The MOU was signed by HRAI chairman David Morden and CIPH chairman John Hammill during CIPH’s 81st annual general meeting in June in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

“This MOU will help promote and facilitate mutual cooperation and assistance between HRAI and CIPH by providing services to their respective members relating to the North American market for residential and commercial HVACR and plumbing equipment,” Morden said.

An essential component of the MOU provides ways for the two organizations to work cooperatively with government authorities and code bodies on regulatory and policy issues that affect both the HVACR and plumbing industries and review common priorities annually.

“Our organizations focus their missions on disseminating educational, scientific, and technical information and expertise to our members to enhance the acceptance of plumbing and heating products and the quality design of plumbing and heating systems,” Hamill said. “Combining our resources when dealing with regulatory matters will only strengthen our relationship. This MOU will facilitate these worthwhile activities on a more global basis.”

As part of the agreement, HRAI and CIPH will work cooperatively to exchange information on pertinent issues via publications, reports, association conferences, and industry meetings, as well as promote educational opportunities for their members to learn about technological advancements in the design and manufacture of plumbing and heating products and systems.
