ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. — Intertek has announced the expansion of its Code Evaluation Services, now providing Intertek Research Reports (IRRs) to assist certification clients in providing evidence to building code authorities, architects, specifiers, and contractors that a new or alternative material, product, or system complies with the intent of the building codes.

Code reports are needed when new building products or systems are introduced into the market and they are either an alternative that is not currently covered in the code (e.g., the International Building Code) or are part of a system that encompasses multiple requirements in the code. In order to demonstrate compliance of the product or system, manufacturers can work with Intertek for testing, certification, and an Intertek Research Report. The product or system will be eligible for Intertek’s Warnock Hersey Certification Mark and will be listed in Intertek’s Warnock Hersey Directory of Listed Products, which will place all relevant information for code officials, designers, and specifiers into one easy-to-access location, said the company.

Michael Beaton, Intertek’s director of product evaluations, said, “Intertek has offered code evaluation services for more than 10 years. The IRR is the last piece of the puzzle for our building products clients, now making it possible for them to work with one agency from start to finish. We have developed a streamlined process that eliminates redundancy and our fee structure is based on fair charges for work performed.” Beaton brings over 25 years of industry experience to the code evaluation process.

“Providing a code report is an important evolution in Intertek’s commitment to partnering with our customers and the industry,” said Gavin Campbell, global senior vice president, Building Products, Intertek. “Our Intertek Research Report was designed to help our customers get to market in a much more expedient and cost-effective manner than they are used to. In bringing Michael Beaton on board, customers can be assured in our process and market acceptance.”
