Public API Will Enable Connected Home Solutions

July 3, 2013
TORONTO — ecobee Inc., makers of the ecobee Smart Thermostat, has announced the launch of its new public application programming interface (API). Through the API, ecobee said the company and its partners will create connected home solutions for homeowners.

ecobee’s API provides developers with a complete tool set to help them develop applications that integrate with ecobee’s smart thermostats. Partners developing apps for the ecobee platform include: Mi Casa Verde, Smart Things, The UBI, Earth Networks, Integral Analytics, Auto Grid, Energy Sherlock, MMB Research Solutions, and more.

“SmartThings is focused on making the world smarter through our open platform and we are passionate about working with open APIs, like those launched for ecobee’s smart thermostat, to further prove the role developers and inventors play in the Internet of Things,” said Alex Hawkinson, founder and CEO of SmartThings. “This integration allows consumers to effortlessly control their ecobee thermostats through the SmartThings platform.”

“ecobee’s API platform enables an active community of forward thinkers to build the next generation of connected home applications. Our customers will benefit from a wide range of convenient solutions that will simplify their lives,” said Stuart Lombard, president and CEO of ecobee.
