Bristol Compressors Intl. Inc. held a food drive at its Bristol, Va., facility in an effort to support Feeding America Southwest Virginia’s mission to provide food for the region’s hungry.

The food drive, which ran Jan. 28 through Feb. 8, gave Bristol Compressors’ employees an opportunity to contribute nonperishable, non-glass, packaged food items at designated drop-off locations in the plant. The company pledged to match the value of all employee contributions.

“As one of the largest employers in the region, Bristol Compressors believes it is our corporate responsibility to support programs that advance the health and wellness of area residents,” said Ed Gniewek, CEO, Bristol Compressors. “Nothing is more central to health and wellness than having enough food.”

Feeding America Southwest Virginia indicates that one in six people in the region are without adequate access to food to maintain a healthy diet. Feeding America Southwest Virginia serves more than 400 partner-feeding programs in the region that provide food to more than 100,000 hungry men, women, and children each month.

“The success of our work depends on corporate partnerships that provide food, folks, and funds,” said Pamela Irvine, president and CEO, Feeding America Southwest Virginia. “We appreciate Bristol Compressors for assuming a leadership role in our community to provide one of the most basic human needs — food.”
