Mitsubishi Celebrates New HQ

Facility in Suwanee, Ga., is LEED Certified

SUWANEE, Ga. — Mitsubishi Electric US Cooling & Heating Division celebrated the opening of its new headquarters in Suwanee, Ga., its fifth headquarters in Georgia’s Gwinnett County since it started operations there in 1992.

The new facility was designed by Macgregor Associates Architects, Atlanta, and built by Industrial Developments Intl. (IDI), Atlanta, to meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED certification standards and the Green Globes assessment and rating system.

The 550,000-square-foot facility is nearly twice the size of the cooling & heating division’s former space and now includes the division’s headquarters, an engineering center, a professional training center, and warehouse space.

“We’re investing in Georgia so we can be more competitive and quicker to market,” said Kenichiro Yamanishi, president and CEO, Mitsubishi Electric Corp., Tokyo. “This warehouse will hold literally tons of product ready to ship anywhere in the Americas. Our engineering center will host a wide depth of talent. Products designed and stored here will not only serve the U.S. market, but the global market as well.”

Mitsubishi Electric US Cooling & Heating Division plans to hire more than 100 engineers, warehouse workers, and others locally over the next three years to add to its approximately 300 U.S.-wide employee base.

“In the 20 years we have called Gwinnett County home, we have outgrown four offices,” said Shuji Morisaki, senior vice president, general manager, Mitsubishi Electric US Cooling & Heating Division. “Our division has experienced double-digit growth over the past five years, and we fully expect this to continue moving forward. We’re pleased to be in this spacious new location that accommodates our continuing expansion.”

Along with recently expanded manufacturing facilities in Memphis, Tenn., and Pittsburgh, Mitsubishi Electric aims to open its first North American HVAC production facility in Mexico in October 2013 to serve the U.S. and Latin American markets.
