March 5, 2013: Williams Comfort Air Receives Patent for Ground Loop Installation Process
The new process allows for the installation of a geothermal ground loop deep into a yard with minimal disturbance to landscaping and property such as driveways and patios. The process is said to require such a small area that it provides the opportunity for geothermal on small lots and wooded lots.
“We are very excited about and proud of this patent and what our process can do for those who value geothermal technology,” said Joe Huck, vice president of strategic alliances for DEFENDER Direct and Williams Comfort Air’s former owner and president. “Heating and cooling a home accounts for more than 50 percent of a homeowner’s utility bills, and water heating is another 15 percent. Geothermal energy is up to 500 percent efficient, which means that for every one unit of electricity used, up to five units come back. And with ever-increasing utility prices, efficiency matters.”
Huck added, “A traditional horizontal loop lies about five feet under the ground and requires great lengths to pull heat from the loops. The Williams Vertizontal loop goes down as far as the geology allows, usually 20 to 25 feet, getting into the water table providing for a better heat exchange and less chance of damage to the pipes since they’re buried deeper.”
Since its inception in 1998, DEFENDER Direct has become a leading dealer of home security and digital communication brands. As a result of its growth, the company has expanded its residential services offering to include True Energy Smart Air, an HVAC contractor offering Carrier products, and Williams Comfort Air.
