HRAI Shipments Soar

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Canada — The Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) announced its third-quarter shipment numbers with residential air conditioning shipments showing the highest product sector gain with a 19 percent increase versus third-quarter 2011.

A total of 11,172 more residential air conditioner units were shipped this year. Residential furnace shipments also showed growth with a 2-percent increase.

Ductless split system shipments and chiller bookings took the biggest hits, decreasing 24 and 21 percent respectively. Ductless split system shipments were reduced by 3,900 units while chiller bookings were down by 44. In addition, air-handling unit shipments decreased by 10 percent, unit heater shipments were down 8 percent, and commercial air conditioning shipments fell 6 percent.
