AHRI Supports Legislation

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) pledged support of Senate Bill 3343, the Nicholas and Zachary Burt Memorial Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Prevention Act, sponsored by Sens. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., and Olympia Snowe, R-Maine.

The bill, which has been referred to the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, would establish a federal performance standard for residential carbon monoxide detectors and encourage states to require the installation of detectors in all homes.

“This legislation will protect homeowners from an easily avoidable tragedy,” said Stephen Yurek, president and CEO of AHRI. “We strongly encourage Congress to act on this legislation before adjournment.”
