Customer: Houston Zoo (Houston)

Installation: Grand Hall USA — Eternal GU195S Hybrid Water Heater

Completion: December 2011

Objective: Provide an affordable water-heating system to allow for warm animal baths year round.

Work Completed: Every day the zookeepers spend approximately two hours bathing seven elephants. Bathing each elephant can take 10 to 30 minutes. Besides keeping the animals clean, bath time allows the zookeepers to get close to the elephants, and check the condition of their skin as well as their general health. The new Eternal hybrid water heating system enables the zookeepers to give warm baths all year long, while helping save energy and money. The zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, and has a green task force that promotes recycling and water conservation. The Eternal unit is Energy Star rated, with a 98 percent thermal efficiency rating, helping the zoo achieve its energy-conservation goals.

“Not only does our water heater produce endless hot water, but it also helps organizations like the Houston Zoo provide a clean and comfortable environment for its inhabitants.”
- Paul Home, vice president of product and marketing, Grand Hall USA
