Danfoss (www.danfoss.com) added the ETS 6 to the ETS Series of electrically operated expansion valves. Designed to control liquid injection into evaporators, the valve regulates refrigerant flow by offering a total of 480 steps from fully closed to fully open and ensures precise resolution for better control of superheat, even at low flow rates, said the company. With the ability to adapt to a system’s exact capacity demands, the ETS 6 improves energy efficiency in refrigeration, heat pumps, and air conditioning systems. The valve is compatible with all common refrigerants, including R-410A, R-407C, R-404A and R-134a. Compact and lightweight, the new valve can also be used in heat pump systems with biflow operation.
Danfoss Turbocor (www.turbocor.com) TT400 380V 50Hz and 60Hz models are oil-free, variable-speed, magnetic bearing centrifugal compressors. Designed to be an optimum environmental solution, the compressors use HFC-134a refrigerant and provide outstanding part-load and full-load efficiency, the company said. The Danfoss Turbocor TT400 compressor, 380V 50Hz and 60Hz models, was named an Honorable Mention in the 2012 AHR Expo Innovation Awards, Cooling Category.
The expansion of the company’s line of oil-free, magnetic bearing variable speed centrifugal compressors include a 575-V version of the TT400 compressor for the Canadian market; a capacity range extension of the larger TT500 compressors, up to 170-A, in both 460- and 400-V models; and a new Compressor Performance Rating (CPR) selection program with increased prediction accuracy and enhanced user interface capabilities. This option provides a predictive analysis tool for customers to evaluate the economizer option on the entire range of Danfoss Turbocor compressors.
Additionally, Danfoss Turbocor launched a major expansion of its aftermarket products and services for 2012. “The company has expanded its facility in Tallahassee, Florida, by 7,500 square feet to provide a dedicated area for investigation and remanufacturing of compressors, parts fulfillment, and customer training,” said Jeffrey Clinton, manager of customer service and support. “The company also is announcing a new Extended Warranty Program covering up to 5 years of service in the field.”
It also announced the availability of developmental prototype compressors qualified for use with the ultra-low global warming potential (GWP), zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) refrigerant HFO-1234ze, trade named Solstice™ L13 by Honeywell. Prototype compressors named TG310, suitable for outdoor, air-cooled applications, are now being offered to Danfoss Turbocor OEM customers for shipment in April.
Danfoss VLT Drives’ (www.danfossdrives.com) VLT® HVAC basic drive is a robust variable-speed drive solution that delivers highly reliable HVAC performance for basic fan and pump operations. VLT HVAC basic drives minimize wear on HVAC equipment and maximize system uptime, while reducing HVAC system operating costs up to 15 percent. The drives are available in 3 x 200–240 V, 0.25–45 kW; 3 x 380–480 V, 0.37–90 kW; and 3 x 525–600 V, 2.2–90 kW configurations, with IP 20 or IP 21 enclosures, to satisfy a range of power and protection needs.
According to the manufacturer, the Automatic Energy Optimizer function reduces energy consumption by up to 15 percent, while “sleep mode” functionality can help further reduce operating costs and extend drive life. Bypass frequencies minimize operating noise, vibration, and resonance issues. VLT HVAC basic drives also feature a start-up wizard that makes drive setup fast and simple. A unique cooling concept provides problem-free performance, even in harsh environments, without forced air flowing over the electronics, said the manufacturer.
Vertical Bypass Panel Assemblies are structured around Danfoss VLT® HVAC drives to deliver robust variable-speed drive performance in HVAC applications, with market-preferred bypass controls, and maximum geometric flexibility to meet strict installation constraints, said the company. The assemblies feature a UL Type 1/NEMA 1 design, and are UL/CUL 508-listed and seismically-certified. Inherent phase loss/imbalance and brown-out protection prevents product damage and downtime in adverse power quality installations. They are available in non-bypass or three-contactor bypass configurations, and provide 24-vdc control power for all but the largest sizes. A robust dc link reactor is standard in every VLT HVAC drive. The device offers comparable harmonic performance to ac input reactors without detrimental input voltage reductions, and without the extra heat that would typically be removed by additional fans or other devices. Options available with Vertical Bypass Panel Assemblies include 208V–240V through 60 hp, and 460V and 600V through 125 hp. Additional options are available to satisfy specific application needs.
Regal Beloit (www.thedealertoolbox.com) expanded the Century 4-in-1® Heatmaster® multiple-horsepower motors to include ½-hp ratings, which replace hundreds of ½- to 1/5-hp, 208-230 and 460 V, 825- or 1,075-rpm residential and commercial condenser fan motors. The ultra high-torque designs and the use of double sealed ball bearings allow the motors to perform in even the toughest applications, said the company. The 4-in-1 motors may be mounted by bellyband, thru-bolts, or shell holes; the totally enclosed construction of the motor allows for all-angle mounting and is designed with a water-resistant reversing plug for quick rotation change. The 48-frame condenser fan motors are installed with one simple connection, eliminating complicated wiring diagrams and the need to switch capacitors — features that make installation much easier for contractors, according to the company. The HeatMaster line of motors is built with UL- and CSA-approved Class F insulation, which enables the motors to meet 70˚C (158˚F) maximum ambient temperatures.
Danfoss’ (www.danfoss.us) KoolApp™ refrigerant converter mobile app is based on the Danfoss Refrigerant Slider. It instantly provides accurate pressure-to-temperature conversions for 48 refrigerants — including R-744, R-290, and R-32 — on mobile devices that use Android and Apple iOS. Designed for installers, distributors, and producers of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, the app enables users to enter exact figures or use the slide ruler to obtain precise, accurate conversions, based on National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Refrigerant Properties and Antoine equations. KoolApp can be customized by selecting the refrigerants most commonly used and making them easily accessible. The app also allows users to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit and bar and psi. Refrigerant data includes the global warming potential (GWP), ozone depletion potential (ODP), critical temperature, and boiling point. KoolApp is available for download free of charge.
